Jerry Mac Spurlock was born September 4, 1950 to Bob and Gladys Spurlock in Waxahachee, Texas (the lastborn of 3 boys). His early years were spent in Texas, Pocatello, ID, Sant Ana, CA (great memories of summer pick up baseball games, the beach, and Disneyland), Northglenn, CO and Albuquerque, NM. Jerry loved telling stories of the many adventures he and his brothers had in their youth. He excelled at nearly every sport he attempted. His natural ability shone through football, baseball and basketball at Sandia High School, graduating in 1968. He was proud to be part of the championships in each sport and was an All-American. He accepted a football scholarship to UNM; however, an injury ended his career. He then turned to friends and baseball at Colorado State, where he was a member of the ATO Fraternity. After graduation he accepted an offer to teach PE in Werribee, Australia. He quickly became attached to families there and spent his off time exploring the country as well as New Zealand, Bali and more before returning to Colorado. Jerry married Teresa Johnson Spurlock September 5, 1981 in Iowa Falls, Iowa. Together they raised 3 children (Christopher '83, Michael '85, Quinn '89) whom he adored. Extended families became close and were an integral part of every holiday. Neighbors & coaching communities became family. His career in sales took him all over the US where he formed lifelong friendships. Traveling continued. Many trips abroad with Teresa as well as family vacations and a lot of "lake time"! in 1991, his world was rocked when a favorite niece passes away of cancer. This would become the first of many losses and tragedies experienced with family and friends. His fortitude and strength were every present. He laughed hard. He cried hard. Jerry was a founding member of Colorado Community Church where many friendships evolved, His first trip to Uganda in 2000 (then Kenya 2004) changed his view of life. His love of the people and cultures led him to stay actively involved. In 2008, Jerry's first grandchild was born which spurred a brand new world and expanded his already big capacity for love. He viewed each addition as an incredible gift and was instrumental in shaping lives. Jerry was a big man, with a big personality in a big world, leaving a big impact. His authenticity spoke loudly and he had a fierce love for family and friends. His heart was tender. He was not afraid to step in when anyone needed help. His many passions included: family, dogs, sports, golf, snorkeling, diving, camping, boating, fishing, hunting, coaching, grandkids, card games, food, music, movies, road trips & Wordle (all competitions were welcomed)! His sense of humor and adventure were contagious. He endured (and kept record) of his 28 surgeries (most post sports related). He was elated to be inducted into the Sandia (New Mexico) Hall of Fame in 2019. He proudly stood by his top 100 songs (the variety explaining his diversity!) as well as his friendships, and his experiences. He was blessed and he, in turn, blessed others.

His stories live on through Teresa (wife), Christopher/Megan/Rowan (son/dil/grand), Michael/Nicole/Abby (son, dil/bonus grand), Quinn (daughter), Kian, Brody and Virginia (Nia) beloved grands! Two brothers (Robert and Garry), loved nephews & nieces, plus grand nephews and nieces as well as his many circles of friends. A "Jerry Spurlock Memorial Fund" has been established at www.how101.org
