To the Young & Old: Rejoice & Remember

April 22, 2018 • Matt Miller • Ecclesiastes 11:7—12:14

This is the final sermon in Matt Miller's Ecclesiastes sermon series. Solomon concludes the book by giving one last reflection on the greatest evil of all -- death. For Solomon, the brevity of life is the main motivator for why every person should pursue enjoyment of God's good gift of life. However, the conclusion of life, which is death, ushers in judgement. As a result, the judgment of our Creator is Solomon's main motivator for then making sure we pursue life well. In the end, Solomon's final word is that we ought to rejoice in life, but just remember that God will bring us to judgement for everything. Therefore, enjoy life, but enjoy it while fearing Him!

A Wise Investment

Next sermon in this series: https://subspla.sh/nmqpz9c Solomon gives wise counsel for how to view your money. He thrice-repeats the phrase, "You do not know." As such, wisdom prepares for the unknowns of life, but also recognizes that preparation does not guarantee prosperity. This passage points to the words of Christ, who picking up on a similar theme states there is a way to be rich in this world that is not rich toward God. Therefore, what we do with our money, time, and skill has eternal implications.
