The memorial service for Carolyn will be held at Colorado Community Church on Wednesday, March 6, at 11:00am. Carolyn Ann Johnson was born on August 31, 1944 to parents Mattie Williams and Cornelius Johnson in Pine Bluff, Arkansas. She spent a lot of her childhood with her grandmother, Golena Williams, lovingly known as "Big Momma", who was the love of her life. She also spent a few years in Chicago, IL with family. She attended Merrill High School and obtained her diploma. She did some college courses, but an undergraduate degree was not completed. Carolyn had several jobs before settling into her career as Senior Traffic Superior for the Los Angeles Police Department, where she supervised over 500 employees. At age 17, Carolyn married Ed Louis Cook. Two children were born from that union, and both were her pride and joy: Debora Denita Cook and Raynard Jamal Cook. Known as "Miss Ann" by many family members, she was an exemplary and phenomenal woman. She was well known for her hospitality, her lovingkindness, her generosity, wisdom, warm smile, wit, contagious loquaciousness, and overall godly qualities. She loved to entertain and was a great cook, known for her outstanding dishes. She handed down choice recipes to her two children, as they began to dabble in the culinary arena. She always went out of her way to make people feel 'right at home' in her presence. If she knew someone's favorite food/drink, she went out of her way to ensure those things were present at gatherings. She lived in California most of her life and settled at 1st United Christian Church for a season, where she obtained many meaningful friends. In 2004, she moved to Aurora, CO and placed her membership at Colorado Community Church and gained many friends. Once a friend, always a friend to Carolyn, and she cherished all with whom she spent time. She was preceded in death by her precious grandmother, Golena Williams, her mom Mattie Payne, stepdad Midget Payne, her dad Cornelius Johnson, brother Donald Payne, and hosts of other family members. She is survived by both children: daughter, Debora Armstrong (husband-Anthony); son Ray Cook (wife-Karen); brother Billy Payne (wife-Gayle), grandchildren Jonathan, Joshua, Kariss and Aaron, and a host of other family. Carolyn will be greatly missed by her children, their spouses, and grandchildren. A great deal of her life was centered around her cherished grands. All four of them were the love of "Nana's" life. It's hard to put into mere words how she impacted their lives, but her legacy lives on in each of them. Other loved ones, friends, and church members will certainly miss her as well, as she was genuinely loved and adored by all.
