Power is a double-edged sword, capable of fostering greatness or plunging into darkness. Within the sacred walls of the church, where trust is paramount, understanding power dynamics is crucial. How do we navigate these webs of influence that extend into our families, workplaces, and culture? What happens when power is abused?

This RHT will be presented by Elke Carlson – Director of Safe Ministry/National Advisor for The Alliance Canada


Elke was born and raised in Calgary Alberta. She has had rewarding work in non-profit organizations connecting vulnerable populations with equine experiences, in children’s ministry at her local church and with the Calgary Police Services in various frontline officer positions. She is also a master’s in theology candidate. She has been married for 24 years and has two incredible young men who are currently in post-secondary studies. Elke oversees the Policy and Procedures on Sexual Misconduct for Official Workers and Churches, the Whistleblower Policy, and develops resources for abuse education along with training and guidance in prevention, response and care for safe and flourishing communities across the C&MA.
