Faith Community

September 25, 2022 • Pastor Mical Pugh • Hebrews 10:24–25, John 13:34–35, Acts 2:42–47

It is "not good" for us to be alone. God has wired us to be in relationships and to live in community with others so we can grow spiritually and emotionally as we care for one another. The church is first this kind of spiritual family and a faith community that gathers together for weekly worship and regularly in small groups. So why is it so hard for us to take the time to be together? What keeps us from tending our souls with the worship and community they so much need?

Service

September 4, 2022 • Pastor Mical Pugh • Mark 10:45, Galatians 5:13–14, John 13:1–17

As consumers, we’re quite comfortable being served. We may even approach life like a restaurant menu for what will satisfy what we feel like at the moment. Yet our world gets small and full of conflict if it’s only about us. Jesus offers a better way. He came ‘not to be served, but to serve.’ The spiritual practice of service opens our world to the larger kingdom purpose for which we were designed. What would it look like to approach each day with the attitude, “who can I serve today?” What would church look like if when we gathered on Sunday, we asked the question, “how can I help you?”

Giving

September 18, 2022 • Pastor Mical Pugh • Philippians 4:18–19, 2 Corinthians 9:6–15, Matthew 6:19–21

If all we do is receive and consume, our heart becomes toxic with self-preoccupation and feeling of entitlement. God’s solution is to give. It is an act of trust and worship that pleases God. Giving is sowing into the harvest and it makes an eternal investment. The spiritual practice of giving is good for your souls and essential to growing in relationship with God. What would it look like for you to become more generous?

Prayer and Scripture

September 11, 2022 • Pastor Rod Kamrath • Deuteronomy 6:4–9, John 15:4, Colossians 3:15–17

It has been referred to ‘a quiet time’, ‘daily devotions’, ‘the daily office’, or being with Jesus’. It’s the spiritual practice of taking time each day to connect with God by reading the Bible and prayer. How do you keep it alive and fresh; a time of both talking and listening to God?
