Organist Jean-Baptiste Robin demonstrates the versatility of the Cathedral’s Richards Fowkes organ with famous Baroque works by J. S. Bach, François Couperin, and Jean-Philippe Rameau, as well as French romantic masterpieces by César Franck and Louis Vierne. The program also includes Robin’s own compositions and improvisation. No admission charge. Suggested donation: $15. One of the most active French organists today, Jean-Baptiste Robin is regarded as one of the most prominent French concert organists and composers of today. With his appointment in 2010 as Organist of the Royal Chapel at the Palace of Versailles, he was secured a place in a long line of heralded French organists, such as Couperin, Marchand, Daquin, and Balbastre. He also serves as Professor of Organ and Composition at the Conservatoire à Rayonnement Régional in Versailles. His frequent performance trips have yielded recitals in 20 European countries, Russia, Israël, Asia (Japan and South Korea), Canada and nearly half of the fifty states in the United States of America. Mr. Robin has been a featured recitalist at well-known international concert halls: Walt Disney Concert Hall (Los Angeles), Woolsey Hall (New Haven, CT), Zaryadye Concert Hall (Moscow), the Mariinsky Theater (St. Petersburg, Russia), the National Music Auditorium (Madrid), the Center for the Performing Arts and the Forbidden City Concert Hall (Beijing), the Sejong Cultural Center (Seoul), and Musashino Concert Hall (Tokyo). In Europe, Jean-Baptiste Robin performed in international festivals in Haarlem, Madrid, Montserrat, Bonn, Dresden, Freiberg, and Timisoara, among many others. In France he was invited to famous churches like Notre-Dame, Saint-Sulpice and Saint-Eustache in Paris, and European cathedrals in Cologne, Geneva, Monaco, and in Poitiers where he was organist of the François-Henri Clicquot organ from 2000-2010. As a master teacher, he was a distinguished artist-in-residence at Yale University and several times at the International Summer Academy for Organists in Haarlem, Holland, and he has taught master classes for the American Guild of Organists and universities and conservatories including the Oberlin Conservatory of Music, and the Beijing Central Conservatory, China. He teaches for the Royaumont Seminar and each year for the Poitiers Summer Academy. He was a jury member at the Canadian International Organ Competition in Montréal in 2017 and the St. Albans International Competition in 2021. He has recorded the complete works of Jehan Alain (Brilliant Classics), Felix Mendelssohn, Louis Marchand (Triton), and François Couperin, as well as his own compositions. These recordings have been consistently praised by music critics and have won numerous prizes in France and England, including several Golden Diapason, the Editor's Choice by Gramophone, the Charles Cros Academy and the Preis der deutschen Schallplattenkritik Vierteljahresliste. Jean-Baptiste Robin has composed over fifty works ranging from those for solo instruments to symphony.
