Day 20: The Lifelong Work of Resistance

Believing for More: 21 Days of Prayer & Fasting

January 25 - 26, 2025

SILENCE:

Spend 2 minutes in silence, letting go of tension and distractions; being still and present before God.

SCRIPTURE READING:

“We are God’s handiwork, created in Christ Jesus to do good works, which God prepared in advance for us to do.”  —Ephesians 2:10

DEVOTIONAL:

“The lifelong work of resistance will look different for each of us, with that same goal of love, justice, peace, and connectedness for all at the center.”  —from “Living Resistance” by Kaitlin Curtice

I think this is one of the worst ways we get trapped by our ideas of what resistance “should be” — when we look around, see how others are doing it, and decide the ways we move and breathe must not be enough.

No, friends!

Look at yourself, your life, and the things that make you come alive and feel the power of kinship and care. When you spot those things, hold on to them, practice them, put them to use!  THAT is how we change, how the world changes.

If we are holding on to that goal of love, justice, connectedness, peace, we will get there, each of our lives making up those mosaic pieces.

We will get there, and we are doing it every single day. Resistance is lifelong work, never ever forget that.

So who are you? And how will you show up?”

REFLECTION/APPLICATION:

What might the lifelong work of resistance look like for you in this season of your life?

PRAYER:

Lord God, We are your handiwork, created to do good works, which you prepared long in advance for us to do. Help us discover how you wired us, what energizes us, what gives us joy to sustain us in the lifelong work of resistance. Come, Holy Spirit, come. We can’t do this without you. Amen.
