Family Friendly Saturday Hike

Spend a few hours in God's Creation.

April 1, 2023
8:30 - 10:30am

The hike will start at 8:30 am from a paved parking area just a few yards north of the intersection of NW 50th St. and North Stinchcomb Ave. The East Trail, which Google Maps labels as River Road, proceeds northwest. We will walk "out and back" and return to the parking area. We plan a leisurely and family-friendly hike of about an hour or so. The trail is wide and level, like a quiet country road lined by trees open only to foot traffic. We'll take time to look for springtime birds and tracks and signs of deer and other creatures. We will have extra binoculars to get a closer look at interesting things we see along the way. The trail's clay surface is relatively smooth, so strollers can navigate it unless we have rain in the days just before the hike. Dogs on leashes are welcome. If everyone wears long pants and closed-toed shoes, we can also explore many of the game trails that cross the path as they wind from farm fields on the east toward the north Canadian River to the west. Bring water and snacks. The trailhead has no toilet facilities but is located less than a mile from gas stations with restrooms on NW 39th Expressway. Let him know if you want to carpool and he will meet you at Westminster at 8:00 am that morning, in time to arrive at the trailhead in time for the 8:30 am start.
